Asbury Defeats Maryville 3-1

Scots Swept in Season Series; Chance for 20 Wins Saturday

WILMORE, Ky. – Maryville saw its seven-match winning streak halted Wednesday night in a 3-1 defeat at Asbury.

The host Eagles completed a season sweep of the Scots, rallying for three straight set wins after Maryville took the opener. The set scores were 24-26, 25-12, 25-13 and 25-15.

Asbury with the win clinches the Collegiate Conference of the South regular season crown in its debut season. The Eagles will host the conference tournament Nov. 15-16.

Maryville at 11-3 still leads third-place Covenant at 10-4 by one game with two matches remaining, plus MC holds the tiebreaker by virtue of a season sweep. A second-place finish advances the Scots straight into the tournament semifinals.

Maryville broke in front in the first set, scoring the first five points behind the serving of Katelyn Eldred and a kill from Cailin Mastropasqua. Asbury pulled within 7-6 but then the Scots stretched the lead to 15-7 on consecutive kills from Brooke Oliver and Landry Frisch.

The Scots had match point at 24-20 but Asbury reeled off four in a row to force the first tie of the set. Frisch responded with a kill and then a bad set by the Eagles settled it at 26-24 Scots.

Maryville never led in any of the last three sets, forcing three early ties in Set 3 before Asbury took control.

Longest Winning Streak Since 2022
Reese Bailey posted eight kills and a .238 hitting percentage to lead Maryville. Frisch added seven kills and Mastropasqua six. Other statistical leaders were Dakota Vaiese with 16 assists, Bailey with two aces and Eldred and Mastropasqua with 14 digs apiece.

Blocks favored Asbury 9-1.

The seven-match winning streak by the Scots was the program's longest since a 13-match run late in the 2022 season.

Asbury improved to 18-6 overall, while Maryville is 18-8. The Scots have a chance to reach 20 wins this Saturday when they take on Agnes Scott and LaGrange in Decatur, Georgia. Maryville's final home match of the season is Nov. 5 against Sewanee.
