SEWANEE, Tenn. – Maryville on Saturday posted its best team score in 15 years in any meet involving four or more teams. The Scots finished third out of four teams in the Mountain Goat Invitational, hosted by Sewanee.

Maryville tallied 59 points, with all five Scot scorers placing in the top 16. Not since 2009 had the Scots scored fewer than 60 points in a meet of at least four teams.

"The men's team had a breakthrough moment today," Maryville head coach
Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams said. "This really visualizes what I have been telling them all along, that they are the best men's team we have had at MC in a while.

"On top of this,
James LeNeve had a tremendous race. He finished first for our team and earned the school record for 4 miles, beating recent Wall of Fame inductee Eric Weatherbee's record of 25:34 from 2002.
Steve Cope,
Tyler Tangel, and
Terry Gonzalez also all beat Eric's previously held school record, and along withÂ
Gustavo Hernandez, all earned spots in the all-time top 10 times for Maryville College for the 4-Mile Race."

LeNeve and Cope came home in sixth and seventh place, respectively, clocking in at 23:25.2 for LeNeve and 23:27.9 for Cope.
Tyler Tangel was the next Maryville finisher in 13th place at 23:59.7, with
Terry Gonzalez and
Gustavo Hernandez rounding out the Scots scoring with placements of 15th and 16th. The time for Gonzalez was 25:31.0 and for Hernandez 25:50.0.

Maryville's
Wyatt Crider finished 22nd with a time of 27:19.4, with
Paul Kanios in 25th place at 28:53.2.
Sam Cocchia crossed in 30:12.7 for 27th place and
Osvaldo Contreras posted 32:08.8 for 28th place.

The Scots return to action Oct. 18 at Chattanooga's home meet. Competition takes place at Camp Jordan in East Ridge. The CCS Championships follow Nov. 1 in Clinton, Mississippi.
