CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Both Maryville cross country teams competed in the Mountainside Stride race hosted by Covenant in Chattanooga on Saturday morning. There were school records broken, along with personal records set. Head Coach
Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams was pleased with the team's overall performance, stating the following:
Â
"It was great to get a first race in and awesome to have a large crowd of Scots there to cheer on our runners. Our goal was to start the season off at a better place than last year, and both teams did just that.Â
Â
"On the men's side, last year we earned 131 points and had a team average time of 22:49. Today on the same course, the men scored 99 points and had a team average time of 21:05. On top of this, 11 of the 12 runners ran a PR, and Adyn Elliott broke the 6k school record for Maryville College. Also, both Adyn and Tyler Tangel placed in the top 15 to earn a top finisher t-shirt.Â
Â
"On the women's side, last year we earned 131 points and had a team time average of 30:35, placing 5th. This year at the same race, the women scored 73 points, placed 4th, and had a team time average of 28:05. There were also 6 PRs for our women's team. One of our top runners had an injury during the race and was not able to finish, so taking how everyone did today and once she is back to being healthy, we are very excited to see how this team will continue to make huge strides for this program.Â
Â
"Overall, today showed a great sign of improvement for our team, and I am excited for their potential this season!"
