MARYVILLE – Weather forced a three-day delay, but Maryville College was able to host its annual cross country invitational here Monday afternoon.

The Scots finished second after three Maryville runners crossed the line among the top five placements.
Â
Steve Cope landed a third-place result in 30 minutes and 1.1 seconds.
Tyler Tangel followed Cope in fourth place at 31:16.3, and
James LeNeve was fifth at 31:50.6.
Terry Gonzalez made it four Scots in the top 10 with a time of 33:16.5 to land in the 10th spot, and
Gustavo Hernandez rounded out the Maryville scoring in 13th with a time of 35:23.9.

Sam Cocchia crossed in 16th place after posting 37:18.7, just ahead of
Wyatt Crider in 18th place at 38:04.0.
Osvaldo Contreras crossed the line in 40:51.4 and
Jonathan Yost clocked a PR time of 44:05.6 for the Scots.
Paul Kanios started the race but did not finish because of an injury.
"Despite having to postpone the race and teams canceling due to the weather and new date, through it all, I am very glad that we are safe and had the opportunity to run today," Maryville head coach
Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams said. "Our course is known for being on the tougher side, but today's focus was to work on confidence. In cross country, there will be circumstances thrown our way, tough courses, and no race is the same, but we can control our attitudes and confidence, which goes along with our team motto that confidence is contagious.
"All things considered, everyone gave it their all today and I am glad we were able to have one last home race for our seniors."

Pellissippi State won team honors just ahead of Maryville, and Pellissippi's Stephen Scallion the top individual finisher with a time of 29:41.1.

The Scots are back in action Saturday at the Mountain Goat Invitational, hosted by Sewanee. Start time is 11 a.m. Central time.
