MARYVILLE—The Maryville Scots entered Tuesday's game on a five-game winning streak, but the Asbury Eagles delivered a setback, halting the Scots' momentum in its tracks.
Maryville's largest lead of the night came late in the third set, after the Scots battled back to force a 16-16 tie. They pushed ahead to 22-21 before Asbury responded with a 4-0 run to close out the set and the match.
Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, and 25-22. Maryville forced eight ties in the first set and held a brief lead. The second set was controlled by Asbury, with only two ties throughout.
The Scots managed just 31 kills on the night, with
Cailin Mastropasqua leading the way with nine. Right behind her was
Reese Bailey, who added seven. Both Mastropasqua and Bailey also contributed two blocks each.
Saturday is Senior Day with a noon matchup against LaGrange, followed by Agnes Scott at 4 p.m.
