MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Maryville dropped a low-scoring affair on Day 2 of the Rhodes Invitational, falling to Grinnell 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Memphis.
Maryville's pitchers impressed in the contest. Despite recording the loss, starter
Kyle Timko pitched 6 2/3 innings, matching his career-high from last season in a loss to Belhaven on March 18, 2023. He allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while matching his career-high with five strikeouts.
Austin Suttle came on to pitch with two outs in the seventh, throwing the remainder of the game (2 1/3 innings), allowing just one run on one hit while striking out our batters.
Grinnell's lone hit and run allowed by Suttle came on a solo home run from Ethan Crawford with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.
Maryville scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third when
Jacob Johnston drove in
Max Bowers on a groundout to second base.
MC recorded seven hits in the contest.
Colin Dunworth was the only Scot to record multiple hits in the contest, going 2-for-4 with singles in the third and eighth innings.
Maryville is back in action Tuesday afternoon, playing its fourth of seven straight games on the road against Berry in Rome, Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
