MARYVILLE – 12 runs scored. 12 straight wins.
The Maryville College baseball team continued rolling Wednesday night with a dominant 12-2 run-rule shortened win over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover at Scotland Yard.
With the win, they matched last season's 12-game stretch to begin the year for the longest winning streak since at least 2012.
Maryville played well on both sides of the ball, picking up 10 or more hits (13) for the 10th time since the streak began against Asbury on April 3 while holding the Panthers to just three hits, a season-best for the Scots' pitchers.
For the second game in a row, all nine Maryville starters recorded a hit, led by two apiece from
Zach Devries,
Ashton Whiteaker,
Zac Graham, and
Max Bowers.
The Scots did not strike out in the contest, a feat that no Maryville squad has accomplished since at least 2012.
Graham continued to prove himself as a run producer, leading the Scots with five RBIs. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two doubles. The third baseman now stands alone atop the CCS leaderboard with 14 two-baggers, two ahead of Bowers, who sits in third with 12.
He also ranks first in the league in triples and is tied for third in home runs. He leads the conference in slugging (.592) and OPS (.991).
Over his last 10 games, the Bradenton, Florida native is batting .488 (20-for-41) with three home runs, a triple, seven doubles, 23 RBIs, nine runs scored and six walks. He has an OPS of 1.498 during that stretch.
Christian Carlton hit his third home run of the season in the contest, smacking a solo shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth to put MC ahead 6-0.
Maryville scored runs in six of their seven trips to the plate, capped off by a six-run sixth inning that put them ahead 12-0, securing the run-rule victory despite the Panthers' two-run seventh.
Max Bowers led off the inning with a single to left field, kicking off the six-run rally that saw 10 different batters reach base in the inning. The Scots batted around back to Bowers, who was pinch hit for by
Carter Crow, who reached base via hit-by-pitch.
Grady Cash picked up the win in his first start, throwing three shutout innings while striking out four batters. He allowed just two hits and two walks in his seventh appearance of the season. Despite throwing just three innings, Cash qualified for the win as the pitcher of record on a scheduled bullpen day.
Garrett Gleason,
Austin Suttle, and
Clark Langley combined to pitch four innings out of the bullpen, allowing one hit while striking out four batters.
Suttle pitched two of those innings, striking out two batters while not allowing a single base runner.
Maryville is back in action over the weekend for a three-game CCS series on the road against LaGrange. With a victory in Game 1 on Friday, MC will have secured its longest winning streak dating back to at least 2012. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
