LaGrange, Ga. – Maryville's longest winning streak in at least 13 years came to an end at 13 games Saturday afternoon as the Scots fell to LaGrange 4-1 at Cleaveland Field.
MC had multiple opportunities to strike in the final two innings, loading the bases with no outs in both the eighth and ninth innings, but they were only able to score one run on an RBI groundout from
Max Bowers in the Scots final time at the plate.
Maryville recorded just five hits in the contest, led by two from Bowers.
Jacob Johnston,
Daniel Montana, and
AJ Finco also picked up a knock in the game.
Montana also recorded the only walk for MC, joining Bowers as the lone Scots to reach base safely twice on Saturday. The DH has extended his on-base streak to 17 games, batting .475 during that stretch, going 28-for-59.
Nic Mirabella got the start for Maryville, pitching a season-high 6 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits while walking two batters. Three of his runs allowed and four of his hits given up came in the third inning.
Bryce Einstein pitched 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen following Mirabella's seventh-inning departure. He did not allow a run while giving up two hits during his outing.
With the series tied 1-1, The Scots and Panthers will meet in a rubber game at Cleaveland Field on Sunday at 2 p.m.
