LaGRANGE, Ga. – Two teams headed in opposite directions produced the expected result, with Maryville blanking LaGrange 9-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Scots now own an eight-match winning streak, which equals the number of matches Maryville won all of last season en route to an 8-11 finish. Two years ago in head coach
Doug Corbett's debut year at the helm, Maryville produced a 4-10 mark.
But this team is up to 11-5 overall and 5-0 in the Collegiate Conference of the South. The Scots started the spring schedule 2-4, but it's been nothing but W's since March 11 with the team record improving to 10-4 for the semester. LaGrange remained winless on the season, dropping to 0-14 overall and 0-5 in the CCS.
Sunday in Georgia, the five-player Panther squad put up a fight at No. 1 doubles. Maryville's
Abby Diggs and
Mandy Webb prevailed 8-3. For Diggs, it's her eighth consecutive doubles victory; Webb has won seven doubles matches in a row.
Josie McRae and
Alyssa Smith posted an 8-0 whitewash at the No. 2 doubles position. LaGrange forfeited the match at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Maryville lost no more than one game in any set.
Elizabeth Shwaiko rolled 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 position, while
Katelyn Cook was a 6-1, 6-1 winner. At No. 3,
Mia Brown performed a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash against her Panther foe. Webb was a 6-1, 6-0 victor at No. 4, with
Josie McRae easing to victory 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Abby Diggs was in the sixth position and claimed the forfeit win.
Maryville is back in action Wednesday against Brevard in a match that was rained out March 6. Start time from the MC Tennis Courts is 3 p.m.
