Scots Prevail in Overtime Thriller

Haney, Stoner Step Up to Lead Maryville to Victory

MARYVILLE -  Consistent from start to finish. It's what Coach Darrin Travillian has been preaching the whole season, and his team reflected it tonight in their 72-67 overtime win against Belhaven.

The Scots led for 33 minutes and only trailed for 5 on the night. While Maryville led for that long, it was never by much. The Blazers kept it close throughout the night, tying the game eight times and causing seven lead changes. But the Scots didn't fret when faced with adversity, even when facing an exhausting overtime period.

The stars of the night for MC were Kadence Stoner, Ella Haney, and Emma Huskey. Stoner pulled out a career-best effort with 16 points and six rebounds on 7-11 shooting while Haney delivered a double-double, her third of the season, scoring 17 with 10 rebounds. Huskey almost matched Haney's mark, coming one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 18 points with nine rebounds. The duo of Haney and Stoner combined for six of the eight overtime points to put the Scots over the top.

Maryville's largest lead over Belhaven came in the third quarter. With five to go, the Scots led by 13 points. The Blazers stormed back on a quick 9-0 run from 4:37 - 2:03 to get the score within four and would go into the fourth only down five. They would eventually tie the game with just over nine minutes remaining and take a three-point lead with 8:17 to go. It was back and forth from then on, with both teams trading leads.

Overtime was all Scots, with Belhaven scoring only three points.

The difference in the game came on turnovers, with Maryville forcing 22 on 15 steals.
