Lookout Mountain, Ga. -- Maryville volleyball falls to the Covenant Scots in an intense midweek CCS matchup. This loss drops Maryville to 16-6 overall and 7-2 in the conference. Covenant increases their record to 11-10 overall and 7-2 in the conference. Both the Maryville Scots and Covenant Scots are now fighting to hold onto second place in the conference.
Covenant kicked off set one with two kills before Maryville's
Ruby Walton and
Cailin Mastropasqua were able to respond with two kills of their own. Covenant quickly responded with a three-point run of their own, which ultimately would give the Covenant Scots the lead for the rest of the game. Maryville attempted to piece some points together, including features from
Kyrah Bowles,
Kylie Wilhelmi,
Megan Fairburn, and Walton. Ultimately, Maryville was not able to pull ahead and fell in set one, 25-20.
Mastrpasqua started set two for Maryville, but Covenant responded with three points of their own. Neither team was able to pull ahead far, until Covenant went on a 9-1 run, upping their lead, 21-15. Despite two kills from Wilhelmi and multiple Covenant attack errors, Covenant took set three, 25-19.
Maryville's
Maddie Bouvier started set three with a service ace, and following a few Covenant points, Maryville was able to go on a five point run, featuring a kill from Walton. Following more Covenant interruptions, Maryville went on another run of seven points, including kills from
Ava George Wilber and
Audry Neil. Covenant fought to take the lead, and a Maryville attack error and Covenant kill allowed Covenant to tie up the match, 23-23. Maryville responded with kills from Bowles and Walton, and the Maryville Scots were able to capture set three, 25-24.
Maryville took the lead early in set four with kills from Walton, Wilhelmi, George Wilber, and Bowles. Covenant responded with a four point run, and Maryville quickly matched that with more kills from Wilhelmi, Walton, and
Dakota Vaiese. Despite the effort, Maryville was not able to hold onto the lead, and the Covenant Scots regained control after a 7-1 run. Maryville fought hard to win the set, but a final Covenant kill ended set four, 25-21.
The Maryville Scots are back in action Saturday, October 18th at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM for a senior day tri-match against the LaGrange Panthers and the Agnes Scott Scotties.
