Game One
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Maryville volleyball team took a tough 3-1 loss to the Huntingdon Hawks, dropping their record to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCS. This win improves Huntingdon to 10-9 overall and 2-2 in the CCS.
Maryville had a strong first set against the Hawks, quickly going on a 6-2 scoring streak, featuring kills from
Kylie Wilhelmi,
Hannah Scully, and
Audry Neil. Despite the effort, Huntingdon could not capture the lead throughout the first set. Multiple service errors and attack errors from the Hawks made things easier for the Scots, and two final kills from
Ruby Walton and Wilhelmi ended the first set in favor of the Scots, 25-20.
Huntingdon wasted no time in set two, quickly going on a 14-3 run before the Scots could string some kills together. Although
Cailin Mastropasqua, Wilhelmi, and Walton attacked the Hawks, Huntingdon was able to take set two, 25-13.
Maryville learned from their mistakes and played hard in set three. Multiple kills from Walton, Mastropasqua, and Wilhelmi, plus a service ace from
Dakota Vaiese gave the Scots the lead, 11-9. After back-and-forth play, Maryville had the lead, 24-21, but a Maryville service error ended the Scots' run, and Huntingdon went on a five-point run to win set three, 26-24.
Huntingdon came out strong in set four, going on an 8-0 run before Maryville could get a point on the board. Despite the effort, the Hawks prevented Maryville from piecing any points together, eventually defeating the Scots in set four, 25-10.
Game Two
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Maryville volleyball is back on track after a sweep against Wesleyan (GA). This match increases Maryville's record to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in the CCS. The match drops Wesleyan to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the CCS.
Maryville started set one with a service error but quickly switched gears and went on a 7-0 run before Wesleyan could respond. After a few Wesleyan points were added to the board, Maryville went on a 14-1 run, featuring kills from
Cailin Mastropasqua,
Kiana Kent,
Kylie Wilhelmi, and
Ruby Walton. Maryville dominantly took set one, 25-6.
Similarly, to set one, Maryville did not earn the first point, but Wilhelmi quickly shifted the light back onto Maryville. Despite putting up nine points in the set, Wesleyan only scored one point on their own accord, the rest were Maryville errors. Once again, Mastropasqua, Wilhelmi, Walton, and
Izzy Freeman went on a kill and service ace streak, taking set two, 25-9.
Leeann Maysonent Robles kicked of set three with a service ace for Maryville. Wesleyan was not allowing Maryville to take set three quickly, forcing the Scots to engage in back-and-forth play. However, after Wesleyan's 11
th point, Maryville went on a 10-1 streak with kills from
Audry Neil, Wilhelmi, Kent, and Mastropasqua to take set three, 25-12.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday, October 8
th at 7:00 PM to take on the Asbury Eagles.
