Volleyball Takes Down Conference Leader in Close CCS Matchup

Wilmore, Ky. – The Maryville volleyball team defeated the Asbury Eagles in a close CCS match. This win increases Maryville's record to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Asbury drops to 9-7 overall and 5-1 in the conference. This Maryville victory places the Scots at first in the CCS standings.

Maryville fell behind at the start of set one but wasted zero time regaining the lead. Ruby Walton sparked scoring for the Scots, and they were quickly able to pull ahead, 6-4. Asbury made Maryville work for the set, but kills from Walton, Cailin Mastropasqua, and Kylie Wilhelmi kept the Scots in the game. After a back-and-forth set, a kill from Mastropasqua ended set one 25-21.

Maryville also fell at the start of set two, but Walton straighten1ed the set up with a kill. After a few Asbury points were placed on the board, Maryville went on an impressive 10-1 run, featuring kills from Ava George Wilber, Wilhelmi, and Audry Neil. Despite fighting back Maryville was able to claim set two, 25-21.

Set three started like the other sets. Asbury quickly took the lead, and Maryville quickly responded with points of their own. Despite a strong fight from Maryville, Asbury went on an 8-0 run, ultimately leading to an Asbury win, 25-17.
Asbury quickly captured set four, going on multiple runs that Maryville was not able to recover from. The Scots went on runs of their owns, featuring kills from Wilber, Mastropasqua, and Wilhelmi. However, Maryville's runs were not enough to pull ahead, and the Eagles took set four, 25-20.

Maryville was able to reset for set five and raised the score very quickly, going on a 6-0 run before the Eagles could respond. After multiple attempts from Asbury, the Eagles had a final attack error, dropping set five.

Maryville is back in action on Saturday, October 11th in LaGrange, Georgia against the LaGrange Panthers and the Agnes Scott Scotties.
