MARYVILLE - MC was shutout until the sixth inning in a game that quickly got out of hand for the Scots, and ultimately fell to Belhaven 19-3.
Maryville held their own in the firs two innings, only giving up one run on three hits. From then on, it was all Blazers. Belhaven would go on to score four in the third, five in the fourth, and eight in the fifth before the Scots could pitch a shutout inning in the sixth before giving up another run in the top of the seventh.
The Scots couldn't get out of their own way in that fifth inning. They walked five, hit two, and gave up three hits in the inning on a combined effort from five different pitchers in the half inning.
MC would gain one run back in the sixth and two in the seventh before the game was ultimately called on a run-rule.
AJ Finco scored in the sixth thanks to a single from
Logan Krause who came into the game to pinch hit.
Jay Pichardo, another pinch-hitter, would score in the seventh from third on a passed ball by the catcher.
Jacob Johnston would score on a sac fly by Finco, and that would be it for the Scots.
Overall, Maryville used seven pitchers and would play 24 total different players throughout the game. Starter
Caleb Jinks would earn the loss, taking his record to 2-1 for the year. The Scots as a team fall to 13-5 and 2-1 in conference play, while Belhaven improved to 11-7 and 1-2 in conference action.
Next up for Maryville will be a home midweek match up with Berry, who the Scots defeated earlier in the year 11-9.
