High Point, N.C - After fighting their way back from a 3-1 deficit in the sixth, the Scots fell on Friday night to Montclair 10-8.
An exciting matchup between two excellent teams was decided in the final two innings as Montclair added an insurance run in each to prevent the Maryville comeback in the bottom of the ninth.
After going down 3-1 in the top of the sixth, Maryville mounted a combeback, eventually taking the lead in the bottom of the seventh 6-5. Montclair would go on to score the next five runs of the game, gaining the advantage back in the ninth 10-6. In the bottom of the inning,
Ashton Whiteaker would reach first on an error by the short stop, which allowed
Reece Jordan to score from third.
Colin Dunworth would then go on to single to center field, scoring
Ashton Whiteaker and narrowing the Montclair lead 10-8.
The Scots couldn't get the comeback over the edge, falling in their first match in the Triad Invitational.
Some bright spots in the game for Maryville were
Ashton Whiteaker,
Frank Derner, and Jordan Reece. Reece and Whitekaer each scored two runs, with Whiteaker also getting two RBI. Whiteaker and Derner both launched home runs in the game.

Kyle Timko had a solid outing on the mound as well, pitching 6.1 innings.
Maryville will face Greensboro tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
