Back-to-Back!

The Maryville Baseball Scots Clinch ther Regular-Season CCS Champioinship for the Second Consecutive Year

MARYVILLE - With a sweep of LaGrange this week, and Huntingdon taking a game against Piedmont, your Maryville College Scots are CCS Champions!

The Scots took down LaGrange on senior day 11-7 thanks to a monstrous 8-run first inning by Maryville. Senior Matt Hall highlighted the first frame for the Scots, blasting a three-run homer over the wall and into Honaker Field.

Starting Pitcher Caleb Jinks earned his sixth win of the year, and fourth in a row after tossing 6.1 innings and giving up six earned runs on 11 hits. Relief pitchers Johnny Ruggerio Jr. and Xavier Resto tossed a combined 2.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs on two hits.

Reece Jordan started off the game with a bunt single to third base, his eleventh game out of the last 13 where he earned a hit, and his 14th game in a row getting on base. Jordan is first on the team and second in the conference in batting average at .408. Colin Dunworth doubled down the left field line to bring home Jordan and give the Scots their first run of the game.

Frank Derner this singles to right field, plating dunworth and extending the Maryville lead to 2-0. Designated Hitter Dett Dettwiller then doubled down the left field line in similar fashion to Dunworth, and advanced Derner to third in the process. Zach Devries, who was walked four times in yesterday's game, singled to center field and scored Derner and Dettweiller. 4-0 Scots.

Brayden Evans would single the next at bat, and then would advance to second on a wild pitch (which advanced Devries to third). Senior Matt Hall would blast his second career home run, deep over the left field wall to extend Maryville's lead to 7-0.

Reece Jordan would get his second at bat of the inning and this time would hit a triple to deep right field. Dunworth would single up the middle and bring home Jordan again, which marked Dunworth's 34th RBI of the year, good for second in the CCS. Jordan's run would end the scoring for Maryville in the inning, taking an 8-0 lead after a busy first inning.

LaGrange would try to slowly creep back into the game, scoring one run in the second and two in the third to bring the score to 8-3. The Scots would get back the three runs in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a another single by Zach Devries that brought Frank Derner home, and then a Brayden Evans triple brought in Zach Devries. Evans would then also score, this time on a wild pitch. 11-3 Maryville. This would end the scoring for Maryville in the game.

LaGrange would continue to creep back, scoring four runs in the seventh, including two home runs, making the game tighter at 11-7. They would score again in the eighth, but were shut down the rest of the night, and went three-up three-down in the ninth to close the game.

Six Scots had multi-hit days today, including Brayden Evans who had four hits in five at bats and scored two runs.

In their incredible run, the Scots have not lost a conference series since 2023, and have now swept four of their five series so far this season, with only Piedmont left to play in conference. They have also won thirteen games in a row, dating back to March 25th when the fell at Sewanee.

This year and last year's teams have gone a combined 58-22 (.725), winning the CCS regular season titles both years. The Scots will host the CCS Tournament, beginning April 30th. More info on the tournament can be found here.

Maryville will host Transylvania on Tuesday, before traveling to Piedmont to close out the regular season.
