Scots Finish Fifth After Best Round of Week

Official Scoring

DALTON, Ga. –
Maryville placed two golfers inside the top 10 at the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship, which concluded Wednesday.

Maryville posted its best round of the week at 19-over-par 307 to finish at 67-over 931.

Tristen Evans continued his improvement each day of this tournament, closing with 73 to land in a tie for seventh place in his final Maryville event. Evans shot 76 Monday and 75 Tuesday before finishing with three birdies against four birdies over his closing 18 holes. This was Evans' third top 10 of the season.

Zack Chatman continued his consistent play for the week by closing with 76 Wednesday to grab a tie for 10th place. Chatman, who shot 75 each of the first two days, carded three birdies for the third day in a row. But Wednesday he bounced back from a triple-bogey on the second hole to play the final 16 holes just 1 over par. This was Chatman's best finish of his career.

Reid Woods also shot 76 to tie his career low and post his best round of the tournament by three strokes. That moved Woods up five places to a tie for 19th. The senior birdied No. 1 and played the first nine in even-par 36 before playing the back nine in 40.

Jack Porter carded 82 to wrap a consistent week for the Maryville sophomore. His other scores were 83 Monday and 81 Tuesday, and Porter finished in a tie for 29th place. Reid Morgan shot 95 and finished in 35th place.

"I am extremely proud of our team," Maryville head coach Jim Kelson said. "They played their best event of the year when it mattered most. The statistics show the tremendous improvement this team made from the beginning of the year, and this is all due to their efforts.

"This group was a special one to me. From top to bottom, everyone did a magnificent job across the board. Everyone represented Maryville College impeccably. Our seniors truly will be missed after they made their mark on our program. I know they will be incredibly successful in their chosen careers."

Huntingdon rallied to force a tie with Piedmont atop the team leaderboard at 27-over-par 891. Covenant jumped back ahead of LaGrange for third place, with Covenant finishing at 911 and LaGrange 920. Individually, Covenant's Drew Silman closed with 74 to win medalist honors by five strokes over Huntingdon's Jack Hundley and Stephen Baker. Silman finished at 2-under-par 214.
