Maryville Battles to 3-3 Draw at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Maryville men's soccer was ready to make a statement on the road Wednesday night, but a late penalty kick forced the Scots to settle for a 3-3 draw against Sewanee at Puett Field.

The Scots came out firing, with Brady Hammer striking first in the 14th minute to put Maryville on the board. Just over 15 minutes later, Jonathan Case doubled the advantage, finishing off a setup from Hammer to make it 2-0.

Sewanee cut into the lead early in the second half, but Hammer quickly restored the two-goal cushion in the 51st minute off an assist from Ben Brophy, marking his second goal of the night and his fourth of the season.

Momentum shifted as Sewanee scored twice in the span of 40 minutes, including the game-tying penalty in the 90th minute. The contest grew heated following the PK, with both teams being reduced to ten players after a double red card in the final minute.

Maryville finished with nine shots and five on target, led by Hammer's three shots on goal and two scores. Case added one goal on one attempt, while goalkeeper Christian Alcaraz kept the Scots in front for much of the match with six saves against 18 Sewanee shots.

The Scot remain undefeated in their last five contests (2-1-3), and they are looking to build on offensive momentum this weekend at the Berry University Fall Classic in Rome, Georgia.
