Volleyball Continues Undefeated Conference Play

Game One
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville women's volleyball keeps their win streak alive with a 3-0 victory over the Belhaven Blazers. This win raised Maryville record to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference. This defeat drops Belhaven to 4-10 overall, and 0-2 in the CCS. 

Maryville started off set one with a kill from Audry Neil and an attack error from Belhaven before the Blazers could respond with a point of their own. Maryville retaliated with a quick 10-3 run, featuring kills from Ruby Walton, Cailin Mastropasqua, and Kylie Wilhelmi. Belhaven was able to shrink the scoring deficit until two kills from Wilhelmi and a final kill from Dakota Vaiese ended the set in Maryville's favor, 25-16.

Set two worked out differently for the Scots who initially trailed in the beginning of the set, 6-5. A Blazer service error started the scoring for Maryville who dominantly went on a 20-3 run, highlighting kills from Walton, Wilhelmi, Mastropasqua, and Ava George Wilber. Walton also added three service aces and Vaiese contributed two. Maryville won the second set, 25-9.

Once again Belhaven took the lead early in the set until a kill from Wilhelmi sparked a scoring run for Maryville, granting the Scots a large lead over Belhaven, 17-9. Despite attempting to claw back, a final kill from Walton ended the match, 25-16. 
 
Game Two
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville's women's volleyball rounded out the weekend with a 3-0 victory over the Piedmont Lions. This win increases Maryville's overall record to 12-4, and their conference record to 3-0. This loss dropped Piedmont to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
 
A kill from Maryville's Kylie Wilhelmi kicked things off for set one, but a Maryville attack error quickly tied the set up, 1-1. Neither team was able to pull ahead until a kill from Wilhelmi opened up a run for Maryville, featuring four Wilhelmi kills and a service ace from Ruby Walton, upping Maryville's lead, 10-4. Piedmont added a point of their own until Maryville went on a 10-5 run until Piedmont could retaliate with two kills of their own. Walton started Maryville's final run with a kill, followed by a kill from Mastropasqua and Wilhelmi, leading to a set one win for Maryville, 25-10. 

Piedmont opened up play in set two, before Wilhelmi responded with a kill of their own. Later on, an attack error from Maryville tied up the game, 7-7. The Scots snapped back into the game and went on a 13-3 scoring run, featuring kills from Walton, Wilhelmi and Ava George Wilber, as well as three service aces from Hannah Scully. Despite attempting to lessen the damage, Piedmont could not pull ahead, and three kills in a row from Walton ended set two, 25-14. 

Once again, Piedmont opened up set three with a kill before Wilhelmi responded with a kill of her own. Early on Maryville took the lead until a Piedmont kill tied the set back up. Despite holding Maryville close, the Lions were not able to capitalize at any point, and Maryville won the final set, 25-17. 

The Scots had an overall hitting percentage of .333, led by Wilhelmi with 17 kills, Walton with 15, and Mastropasqua with ten. Kyrah Bowles led on the defensive side with 13 digs, followed by Yanaira Camacho and Hannah Scully with nine each. The Scots are back in action Saturday,  October 4th in Montgomery, Alabama to take on the Huntingdon Hawks.
