Game One
RALEIGH, N.C. – Maryville kicks off the Raleigh Volleyball Tournament with a reverse sweep against the Meredith Avenging Angels on Friday, September 5th. This match improves the Scots' record to 4-0-0, 0-0-0 for the season, and drops Meredith to 3-3-0, 0-0-0 for the season.

Maryville kicked the match off with a kill from Cailin Mastropasqua, but Meredith quickly responded with six points of their own. The Scots were able to instate back and forth play before going on a 7-2 run, pulling ahead 12-11. The Avenging Angels were able to keep the Scots on a short leash, limiting them to a two-point lead until a kill opened up the opportunity for Meredith to go on a 8-0 run, which assisted them in winning the set, 25-21.

This time around, Meredith opened play with a service ace. Two back-to-back attack errors from Maryville gave the Avenging Angels an early lead that Maryville had to work back from. Neither team was able to take the lead and run, until a service error from Meredith allowed the Scots to go on a 4-0 run, featuring a kill from Kylie Wilhelmi, and two service aces from Ruby Walton. Meredith retaliated with a 8-1 run, which eventually sunk Maryville, 25-18.

Consecutive service errors started set three, with each team battling back-and-forth to gain the lead. Two kills from Mastropasqua gave Maryville some breathing room, and the Scots were able to regain control of the court with a score of 11-6. Although Meredith attempted to claw back, a kill from Mastropasqua and an attack error knocked the Avenging Angels down, 25-20.

Set four play was similar to previous sets, with neither team gaining an edge over the other. Maryville was able to piece together a kill from Audry Neil, and a service ace from Katelyn Eldred to lead the set by three points. Meredith was able to come back from the three-point deficit before taking the lead, 19-18. The Scots were able to take off after three Meredith attack errors and three kills from Wilhelmi, earning the fourth set, 25-21.

In Maryville fashion, the Scots were able to go on a 11-1 run, featuring kills from Wilhelmi, Mastropasqua, and Dakota Vaiese. Shortly after, a kill from Vaiese and Walton upped the score for Maryville, and a final service ace from Kyrah Bowles awarded Maryville a hard-fought win.
