WILMORE, Ky. — Maryville led late and put together one of its most complete conference performances of the season, but a late Asbury run at the free-throw line proved decisive as the Scots fell 61–58 on Tuesday evening at the Luce Center in Collegiate Conference of the South action.
Maryville controlled long stretches of the contest and led 56–51 with 3:45 remaining after an Ella Haney three-pointer capped a strong offensive possession. The Scots still held a 58–55 advantage with under a minute to play following an Emily Wilson layup at the 57-second mark, but Asbury closed the game on a decisive 6–0 run to seal the win at the stripe.
The Scots shot 42.0 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc, including a standout third quarter in which Maryville connected on 63.6 percent of its attempts to take a five-point lead into the final period. The game featured 11 ties and nine lead changes, underscoring the back-and-forth nature of the contest.
Wilson led Maryville with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers and adding two assists. Haney posted 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Kadence Stoner added nine points and six rebounds inside. Leighan Jackson provided a spark off the bench with eight points and five rebounds, helping the Scots outscore Asbury 17–10 in bench points.
Asbury was paced by Anna Hellums with 21 points and Emily Sizemore with 20, including key baskets down the stretch. The Eagles shot 92.3 percent from the free-throw line, converting their final six attempts in the closing seconds.
Maryville moves to 5–7 overall and 2–4 in CCS play, while Asbury improves to 7–8 overall and 5–1 in conference action.
