Scots Smother Scots in Impressive Performance

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Maryville College delivered one of its strongest defensive efforts in recent memory on Tuesday night, rolling past Covenant 60–29 in a CCS matchup at Covenant.

The 29 points allowed marked the fewest by a Maryville opponent since Jan. 31 of last year, when the Scots held Wesleyan to just 27 points, underscoring a dominant defensive showing away from home.

Maryville set the tone early, racing out to a 20–7 lead after the first quarter while holding Covenant to just 18.2 percent shooting. The Scots continued to suffocate the Covenant offense throughout the night, limiting the hosts to 13.8 percent shooting overall and a 0-for-19 performance from three-point range.

The Scots took a 31–13 advantage into halftime and never let up after the break. Covenant managed only 10 points in the third quarter and six in the fourth, as Maryville forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 22 points on the offensive end.

Ella Haney led the way with a game-high 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, while Emily Wilson added 11 points. Ella Tharpe contributed seven points and five rebounds, and Maryville's depth was on full display with 13 different players scoring and 20 points coming from the bench.

Maryville also controlled the paint, outscoring Covenant 32–14 inside, and steadily built the margin throughout the second half. With the win, the Scots improved to 8–7 overall and 5–3 in CCS play, continuing to establish themselves behind a defense that has been among the conference's best.
