MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Maryville Scots split their Saturday contests in Memphis, opening the day with an 8-0 shutout win over Lyon before falling in extra innings, 6-5, to Rhodes later in the afternoon.
Maryville combined for 14 hits across the two games, drew 14 walks and received strong performances in the circle, highlighted by a complete-game shutout from Tia Stewart and a home run from Paige Dickinson in game two.
Game One: Stewart Deals in Run-Rule Victory
The Scots took control early in the opener and never looked back, securing an 8-0 win in five innings over Lyon.
Maryville broke through in the second inning. Ryleigh Maples worked a walk and moved into scoring position before Jessica Harris brought her home with an RBI fielder's choice to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.
The big inning came in the fourth. Kaylee Peyret singled to start the rally, and after a walk to Abby Woodard, Harris delivered the biggest swing of the game — a two-RBI triple down the right field line to stretch the lead to 3-0. Emma Blankenship followed with an RBI groundout, and Maryville continued to apply pressure with disciplined at-bats, drawing multiple walks in the frame to plate four total runs.
The Scots added three more in the fifth. Paige Dickinson doubled and advanced on a Lyon error, allowing two runs to score, before Catie Zani capped the afternoon with an RBI single to left field to make it 8-0.
Harris finished with three RBIs, a triple and a stolen base, while Zani went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Peyret also recorded two hits, and Dickinson scored twice while reaching base multiple times.
In the circle, Stewart was in complete command. She tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out four without issuing a walk. Stewart faced the minimum over the final two innings to seal the run-rule victory.
Game Two: Late Push Falls Short in Extras
In the afternoon matchup against Rhodes, the Scots battled back multiple times and held a late lead before the Lynx secured a 6-5 win in eight innings.
Maryville struck first in the second inning when Desiree Nance reached and later scored on an RBI groundout from Je. Harris to give the Scots a 1-0 edge. The Scots added another run in the third, capitalizing on Rhodes defensive miscues to extend the lead to 2-0.
Rhodes responded with a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third to even the score, but Maryville answered in the fifth. Dickinson launched a solo home run to reclaim the lead, and Nance followed with an RBI double to push the advantage to 4-2.
The Lynx countered in the bottom half of the inning, stringing together timely hits to take a 5-4 lead.
