Baseball Bounces Back to Take Series Finale with Piedmont

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville College baseball bounced back Sunday afternoon with a convincing 10-2 victory over Piedmont to close out the weekend series at Scotland Yard.

Behind a complete-game performance from Titus Torbett and an explosive start at the plate, the Scots controlled the finale from the opening inning. Torbett tossed all nine innings, allowing just two runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking none to earn his second win of the season.

Maryville wasted little time building a lead. After Piedmont plated a run in the top of the first, the Scots erupted for four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Det Dettwiller delivered a two-run single that turned into a three-run swing when an error allowed another run to score, and Frank Derner followed with an RBI double to give Maryville a 4-1 advantage.
