Wilmore, Ky. – Maryville softball dominated the Asbury Eagles, earning an 11-1 victory followed by a 7-0 shutout in crucial CCS matchups. Across the doubleheader, the Scots racked up 26 hits, 18 runs, five walks, seven doubles, two triples, and three home runs.
Game One
Game one was a blowout right from the beginning. Leadoff hitter
Emma Blankenship singled to the pitcher to reach, and
Catie Zani brought her in with a double to right center.
Kaylee Peyret singled to advance Zani to third, and
Paige Dickinson walked to load the bases.
Olivia Harris followed with another walk, bringing in Zani and increasing Maryville's lead to 2-0.
Abby Woodard then delivered a big double to the wall in right center, bringing in three runs, before
Jessica Harris closed out the scoring with a single to bring in Woodard. After half an inning, the Scots held a 6-0 lead over the Eagles.
After Blankenship reached with a triple to right center, Zani quickly cleared the bases with an out-of-the-park home run, pushing Maryville's lead to 8-0 after two. In the top of the third, Peyret singled to bring in J. Harris for an unearned run. The Eagles responded with a run of their own on a sacrifice, putting their first run on the board and changing the score to 9-1.
In the top of the fourth, the Scots added two insurance runs thanks to a home run from P. Dickinson and an RBI double from J. Harris. Maryville secured the run-rule win after five innings, 11-1.
In the circle,
Tia Stewart picked up her 10th win of the season, giving up four hits and one run while facing 14 batters.
Whitney Carr shined in relief, throwing two innings and allowing just three hits across nine batters.
Game Two
Game two started in Maryville fashion. After two quick outs to begin the game, Zani came through with her second home run of the day to take the early lead. Peyret capitalized on a triple from P. Dickinson, bringing in Maryville's second run, and a single from O. Harris scored P. Dickinson to give Maryville a 3-0 advantage after one.
The Scots added on in the second when Blankenship singled up the middle to bring in
Ryleigh Maples. On a sacrifice fly from S. Dickinson, J. Harris was able to score, extending Maryville's lead to 5-0. After four scoreless innings on both sides, S. Dickinson singled to left field to bring in J. Harris. P. Dickinson then hit the ball to first, allowing Blankenship to tag and score after the catch, sealing the 7-0 victory.
On the mound, S. Dickinson threw four innings, allowing just two walks across 14 batters while striking out seven.
Jacey Goetzinger made her fourth appearance of the year, tossing two innings and giving up one walk across eight batters.
Watiyeli Taylor closed out the final inning, allowing one hit across five batters while striking out one.
Maryville returns to action Friday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for its final doubleheader of the regular season.
