Box Score 2 MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville Scots swept Covenant in Saturday's doubleheader, earning a dominant 9-3 victory in game one before securing a 2-1 extra-innings win in game two.
Game One
Maryville's offense powered the Scots in the opener, combining strong hitting with solid defense. Across 31 at-bats, Maryville hit .355 with 11 hits, nine RBIs, two triples, and one home run.
Maryville opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Kaylee Peyret brought in Emma Blankenship on a fielder's choice to shortstop. The Scots broke things open in the second inning as Ryleigh Maples, Jessica Harris, and Blankenship reached to load the bases with two outs. Sydney Dickinson delivered a clutch single through the left side to drive in two runs. Catie Zani followed with a three-run home run over the left-field fence, extending Maryville's lead to 6-0.
Covenant answered in the top of the fourth with a two-run single through the left side and added its final run in the sixth on a single up the middle. Maryville tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth when Olivia Harris drove in Zani.
In the circle, Tia Stewart faced 24 batters over five innings, striking out three while allowing eight hits and three runs. Whitney Carr closed out the final two innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk to secure the win.
Game Two
Game two turned into a pitcher's duel, with both teams threatening but unable to capitalize early. Maryville broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Sydney Dickinson singled to left field, bringing home Blankenship for a 1-0 lead.
Covenant tied the game in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch, forcing extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Dickinson reached base, and with two outs, Peyret delivered a walk-off triple to seal the 2-1 victory for the Scots.
Sydney Dickinson started in the circle and faced 21 batters across five innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out four. Jacey Goetzinger tossed two innings, striking out two while giving up three hits and one run. Watiyeli Taylor earned her first collegiate win, allowing just one hit.
The Scots return to action Wednesday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. in Oxford, Alabama, taking on LaGrange in the opening round of the CCS Championship Tournament.
