CROSBY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Maryville Scots men's golf team closed out competition at the Stateline Shootout with a strong second-place finish, posting a three-round total of 888 (+24).
Maryville opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 298 before improving to a 292 in the final round.
Sophomore Will Beyer led the Scots, tying for fifth out of 70 golfers. Beyer opened with a 76 (+4) in the first round before shooting a 74 (+2) in the second. He saved his best performance of the tournament, and his collegiate career, for the final round, firing a 69 (-3).
Competing as an individual, Parker Dimmitt also had a strong showing, tying for fifth overall. Dimmitt opened with a 74 (+2) before carding his best round of the tournament, a 71 (-1), in the second round. He closed with a 74 (+2) in the final round.
Justin Sweeney followed with a 221 (+5), tying for 10th place, while Jack Jacobsen shot a 225 (+9) to tie for 17th. Joseph Gerczak and Jack Porter rounded out the Scots with matching scores of 226 (+10), tying for 20th.
The Scots will look to carry their success into the West Pines Collegiate, scheduled for Oct. 5-6 in Douglasville, Georgia, and hosted by fellow SAA member Oglethorpe.
