The Maryville College baseball team was eliminated today from the Great South Athletic Conference tournament by host LaGrange College by the score of 6-4.
The Scots held an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Mikee Moore doubled, advanced to third base, and trotted home on an Andrew Mabini sacrifice fly.
MC starter Matt Dyer was strong on the mound for the first five innings, but the Panthers touched him for a pair of runs in the sixth. LaGrange manufactured a run in the seventh to go up 3-1.
Maryville rallied to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Moore drove in Cory Kopec who earlier singled. Nick Dean singled to score Blake Gentry. MC's final run came when Moore scored an unearned run on a LaGrange passed ball.
The Panthers took the lead for good in the eighth with a pair of runs on only one hit. They added an insurance run in the ninth to make the final score 6-4.
Wes Dobson suffered the loss in relief of Dyer. Dyer pitched 6.1 innings with four strikeouts while allowing only five hits. Dobson gave up a pair of earned runs in 1.2 innings of work.
MC's offense was paced by Mikee Moore. The senior centerfielder went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. He finished the season with a .340 average and 34 RBI's. Jesse Crisp and Cory Kopec went 2-for-4. Kopec finished his senior season with a strong .395 effort at the plate.
Maryville finishes their first season under the direction of Paul Henry with a record of 18-20.
