Box Score 2 The Maryville College volleyball team split matches today at the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee. The Scots took four sets to defeat Millsaps College 3-1 by the scores of 29-27, 28-26, 24-26, and 26-24. They fell in their second challenge of the day to Austin College 3-1 by the scores of 19-25, 24-26, 25-22, and 11-25.
Against Millsaps, Maryville used a double-double from Kara Strickland to pull past the majors. The senior threw down 15 kills while recording a team-high 19 digs. Kristy Newman added 14 kills while Kelsey Handel smashed 11 kills. Teri Lind directed the efficient offense with 53 assists and completed a double-double of her own with 15 digs. Stevie Gleason and Mallory Bonee supported the strong defensive effort with 19 and 11 digs respectively.
Austin College took the Scots in four sets despite Kristen Sharp's dozen kills. Strickland repeated her double-double effort with 10 kills and 21 digs. Kelsey Handel added nine kills while Teri Lind dished out 39 assists. Bonee and Gleason added a combined 28 digs to help MC's defensive effort.
The Scots (6-5) will play tournament host Rhodes College on Sunday before returning home from a busy weekend.
