Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team dropped to fourth in the present USA South standings with a 74-69 home loss to Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers out rebounded the Scots 40-28 and claimed 17 points on Maryville 12 turnovers to pull away in the second half.
The Scots hit 52% of their first half shots, including a 7-for-10 effort from beyond the arc, but Ferrum took a 39-36 lead into the half by hitting 44% of their shots and 70% of their free-throws. The visitors took advantage of fast break opportunities and numerous second shot opportunities created by their aggressive rebounding.
MC could not match their first half shooting pace and Ferrum pulled away with a strong inside attack on the basket. They attempted only a pair of treys the entire second half.
Ferrum (8-6, 5-1 USA South) is now ranked second in the USA South standings. Lamont King poured in 26 points on 10 of 16 shooting while Donte Thomas added 15 points. Charles Warren was strong in the post and finished with a double-double by tossing in 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Brian Clarke added 10 points and five rebounds for the Panthers.
Maryville (6-8, 3-4 USA South) was paced by Christian Ford's 15 points. The sophomore guard added four rebounds and four assists to his complete floor effort. Joey Bodewig and Jose Agosto each tossed in nine points. Agosto led MC on the boards with a team-high six rebounds.
The Scots will take a break from conference challenges with a mid-week home game against Covenant College. Tip-off against the Georgian Scots in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16th and will follow the MC women as they host Ferrum College at 6:00.
