Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team dropped their second consecutive USA South road challenge on Sunday with a 71-59 loss at the hands of the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
The Bishops took a 16 point lead into the half as Maryville connected on only 24% of their shots including a 5-for-20 effort from beyond the arc. NCWC took advantage of their 34 free-throw opportunities depositing 71% to maintain their lead throughout the second half.
NC Wesleyan (10-7, 3-5 USA South) was paced by a game-high 28 points by Bandon Givens. Givens connected on 6-of-15 shots from the floor and 14-of-15 charity shots from the free-throw line. Evan Collins added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Maryville (7-10, 3-6 USA South) used a 17 point performance from point guard Christian Ford. Ford hit 6-of-15 shots including five treys while dishing out five assists. Oscar Butler deposited 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Spencer Shoffner added 12 points after hitting 4-of-13 three-pointers. Joey Bodewig was strong in the post contributing nine points and nine rebounds.
The Scots' next scheduled game was Piedmont on January 23rd, but the Lions have cancelled the remainder of their season. MC will now prepare for LaGrange College on Saturday, January 26th. The 3:00 tip-off in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium will also welcome back numerous Fighting Scots greats as Maryville celebrates their Alumni Basketball Day when the Panthers come to Randy Lambert Court.
