Box Score The Scots of Maryville College used a goal in each half to defeat USA South foe Meredith 2-0 in women's soccer action on Friday on the campus of Maryville College.
Maryville would get the scoring started in the 17th minute of play as Ashley Howarth would make a run before playing a perfect cross for Sierra Siegel. Siegel would promptly deposit the Scots first shot on goal into the back of the Meredith net. The Scots would only have a slight edge in shots in the first half (4-3) while Meredith would hold the edge in corner kick opportunities (8-7).
In the Second half, the Scots would take control of the game. Maryville would out shoot Meredith (7-2) for the period as well as have the advantage in the corner kick department (3-1). Tess Eisnaugle would score the last goal of the contest after Taylor Emerson played a diagonal ball to her foot. Mandy Marshall would be solid in goal, stopping all three Meredith shots that were on frame.
"Meredith is a good team and they played us hard," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "I'm happy with the result and feel like overall we played a good game."
The Scots improve to 8-2-1 on the year and 6-1 in USA South action while the Avenging Angels fall to 6-3-4 on the year and 4-2-1 in USA South action. Maryville will be back in action Saturday when they host Methodist University. Game time is set for 5:00 pm.
