Box Score The Maryville College women's soccer team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2013 USA South soccer championships after a 3-1 opening round victory over LaGrange College on Saturday evening in Maryville, Tennessee.
The eighth seeded Panthers got on the scoreboard first in the 5th minute of the first half when a penalty kick by Brittany Gray hit the upper cross bar and trickled past MC goalie Mandy Marshall. Gray's lone goal was LaGrange's only shot on goal the entire first half.
The top seeded Scots answered just seven minutes later when Sierra Siegel found the back of the net unassisted. With the score tied 1-1, Siegel found Alexis Franco in front of the net for her third goal.
Maryville went to the half with a 2-1 advantage out shooting the Panthers12-1 at intermission.
MC's offense maintained their attack during the second half equaling their 12 shots on goal while limiting LaGrange to only one more shot the entire evening.
In the 81:st minute Allyson Hale netted her ninth goal of the season with a strong left footer past Panther goalie Chelsea Totaro, who secured a dozen saves on the evening.
Maryville finished out shooting the Panthers 24-2 on the evening.
LaGrange ends their season 8-10-3 overall while Maryville advances with a 13-2-2 overall mark.
Maryville will face Meredith on Friday, November 8th in Martinsville, Virginia during a USA South Tournament semi-finals match. Meredith eliminated Methodist 1-0 in overtime early on Saturday in a first round tournament challenge.
