Box Score MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- The Maryville College women's soccer team was eliminated from the 2013 USA South Soccer Tournament following a 4-2 penalty kick win by Meredith College after a pair of overtime draws.
Each team battled to a 0-0 halftime tie despite Meredith out shooting the Scots 7-1 before the intermission.
Just after the half began, Meredith's Jessie Davis hit Samantha Siomkos with a pass and the freshman from Greensboro tallied her fourth goal of the season in the 47th minute.
Meredith enjoyed the lead until the 73rd minute when Sierra Siegel recorded her sixth assist of the season with a pass to Ashley Howarth. The senior forward from Knoxville found the back of the net for her 15th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
The clock soon expired and a pair of extra periods did not decide a victor.
Meredith players Jessie Davis and Megan Luke made their penalty kicks past MC goalie Mandy Marshall. The Scots' Alexis Franco connected on her free kick, but MC's Howarth was turned away by Meredith keeper Kelsey Hopper. Trailing 2-1, Meredith's Meredith McCarty and Samantha Siomkos' goals combined with Maryville's Sierra Siegel's goal gave the Angels a 4-2 advantage. MC's Taylor Emerson attempted a shot in the lower right corner, but Hopper sent the shot away for the Meredith victory.
The Scots end the season with a 13-2-3 record while Meredith advances to the USA South Championship match with an 11-4-5 mark.
