Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team claimed the 2013 Don Lane Classic in Lexington, Kentucky with an 80-74 victory over tournament host Transylvania University on Wednesday evening.
The Scots shot 45% while holding the Pioneers to a 39% shooting effort. MC pulled away from Transy with an 84% shooting effort from the charity stripe.
Maryville (4-5) was paced by Jaumonee Byrd's double-double. Byrd went 7-for-12 from the field for a team-high 22 points while leading the Scots on the boards with a dozen rebounds. Senior point guard J.P. Burris deposited three treys to finish with 16 points. Oscar Butler also excelled from the perimeter tossing in 14 points while sophomore guard Spencer Shoffner added 10 points on a pair of conections from beyond the arc.
Transylvania falls to 3-6 on the season.
The Scots will take the remainder of the holiday season off. They will return to action on December 30 in Dayton, Tennessee ready to challenge Bryan College. MC will begin USA South action in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium on January 3rd and 4th.
