The Maryville College diamondmen advanced to 14-15 on the season and 9-11 within the USA South with a USA South road doubleheader sweep of Greensboro College on Friday afternoon. The Scots outslugged the Pride 10-7 in the series opener before taking the evening challenge 5-3.
Each squad stroked 16 hits in the opener, but MC's five runs in the ninth secured the victory. Maryville led 5-3 after six inning following a pair of RBI's by catcher Travis Scates and key runs driven in by Zack Blonder, Chris Hamilton, and Andrew Mabini. The Pride tied the game in the seventh inning before MC tallied five runs in their final at-bat. A pair of RBI scored on a Garrett Gresham triple while Jesse Crisp and Scates each sent home a Scots' run.
MC's Matt Dyer tossed a strong 6.1 innings, holding Greensboro to three earned runs while scattering 11 hits. Nick Bowers (4-1) earned the win in relief with 2.2 innings of four hit pitching.
Offensively, MC was paced by Zack Blonder's 4-for-5 effort while Scates finished 3-for-5 with a team-high three RBI's.
The 5-3 Fighting Scots' win displayed stellar pitching by Trevor Brackett. The Greensboro native sat down nine Pride hitters by strikeouts while scattering nine hits over 7.1 innings. Brackett moved to 3-2 on the season after Danny Rosselli and Cody Midgett closed the door with 1.2 innings of two-hit relief.
Maryville's bats remained hot with a 14-hit attack in the nightcap. Blonder continued his torrid pace going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Garrett Gresham, Landon Talley, Andrew Mabini, and Chis Hamilton each posted a pair of hits.
MC will look to conclude the series with a sweep as they challenge Greensboro in a single game on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 1:00 at Leonard Park in Greensboro.
