Box Score The Maryville College baseball team used a solid pitching performance by Junior right-hander Matt Dyer and a four run fourth inning to defeat the LaGrange College Panthers 8-4 on Friday evening on MC's Scotland Yard.
Dyer tossed seven complete innings scattering five hits while allowing only a pair of earned runs to earn his first win of the season. Danny Roselli came on in relief to preserve the key USA South victory.
MC got on the scoreboard with a Travis Scates RBI single in the second and another Scates RBI single in the third. The Scots big fourth inning featured four hits including a Chris Hamilton RBI double to right center and a pair of RBI's plated by a Nick Dean double. MC tallied a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning when Andrew Mabini drove in a runs and the Scots took advantage of one of LaGrange's three defensive miscues on the evening.
Maryville's offense supplied a 12 hit attack featured by Nick Dean going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI's. Chris Hamilton, Andrew Mabini, and Travis Scates each added a pair of hits.
LaGrange falls to 13-15 overall and 11-11 in USA South action. Maryville advances to 15-18 and 10-12 in league play. The second game of the three-game series will take place at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.
