Box Score The Scots of Maryville College started the 2013 season with a bang, defeating Anderson University 5-0 in Indiana.
It didn't take long for Ashley Howarth, the reigning USA South Player of the Year, and Sierra Siegel, the reigning USA South Rookie of the Year, to make their mark on the 2013 campaign. Siegel, the sophomore from Valrico, Florida, scored the opening goal of the season unassisted. Siegel would add a second goal in the first half with the help of Howarth. Ashley Howarth, the senior from Knoxville, scored the final goal of the first half, helping the Scots to a 3-0 half time lead.
The second half was much of the same as senior Alexis Franco found the back of the net off an assist from Lydia Fuson. Monica Besbris ended the scoring and helped the Scots cruise to a 5-0 victory. Megan Nugent and Mandy Marshall combined for the shutout, each recording a scoreless half.
Maryville will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Earlham. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 pm Saturday.
