Box Score It took less than a minute for the women's soccer team from Lynchburg College to score the opening goal of the game and less than five minutes to score the eventual game winner in a 3-1 victory over Maryville College on Friday night in Maryville, Tennessee.
After the two quick strikes, on their first two shots of the game, Lynchburg would add a third goal in the 22nd minute. Maryville's only response would be in the 31st minute as sophomore Sierra Siegel would find the back of the net. The second half was a hard fought battle in which neither team could find the target.
"We were sloppy early and gave up two easy goals," said coach Pepe Fernandez. "Give Lynchburg credit, they are a good team, but we played poorly at the beginning and you can't do that against good teams."
The loss drops Maryville to 1-1-1 on the year. The Scots will be back in action Sunday when they travel to Atlanta to take on Ogelthorpe University. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
