Box Score In decisive fashion, the Lady Scots of Maryville College destroyed Oglethorpe University in women's soccer action on Sunday, defeating the Stormy Petrels 8-1 in Atlanta, GA.
Maryville scored early and often. The Scots got on the scoreboard when Kaitlyn Kennedy found the net from sophomore Tess Eisnaugle. Kennedy, the sophomore from Chattanooga would also score the second goal, this time from senior Phoebe Leo. Sophomore Sierra Siegel would round out the scoring in the first half with a goal. The Scots with the goal keeping of freshman Mandy Marshall would take the 3-0 lead to half.
Maryville kept the pressure on as they continued to score at will. Kennedy would earn the hat trick on the day once again teaming up with Eisnaugle for the Scots fourth goal. Senior Ashley Howarth would add the fifth and sixth Scots goal. Phoebe Leo would get her second assist on the day when she set up sophomore Monica Besbris for the seventh Maryville goal. The Scots last goal of the day would be scored by Allyson Hale. Maryville did allow one second half goal to make the final 8-1.
"I was pleased with our effort today. We finished our opportunities and played well as a group today," said coach Jon Baker. "It felt good to come out and beat a team we are better than after our last two contests."
The win moves the Scots to 2-1-1 on the young season. Maryville will be back in action on Friday when they travel to William Peace. Game time is 4:00 pm.
