Box Score It took 110 minutes and still nothing was decided between the women's soccer teams of Maryville and Sewanee on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College.
In a game with plenty of back and forth action, the first half belonged to the Scots. Maryville out shot Sewanee 5-4 in the first half and collected the only goal. In the 30th minute of the half, sophomore Sierra Siegel scored to give Maryville a 1-0. The game would remain that way to the half.
In the second half Maryville battled, but was unable to keep the 1-0 lead. In the 55th minute the Tigers got the equalizer. The Scots were outshot 8-5 in the second half.
Both overtime periods were as much a battle of will as skill as both teams labored in the early September heat. Maryville was outshot 3-0 in the first overtime period before outshooting Sewanee 3-1 in the second overtime period.
"It was our second game of the year and obviously, we have plenty to work on still," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Our effort wasn't where it needed to be today and the results showed that."
The draw brings Maryville to 1-0-1 on the year. The Scots return to action on Friday night when they host Lynchburg. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
