Box Score The Maryville College Scots rolled to their fourth consecutive victory with an 81-74 win over Methodist University on Saturday afternoon in MC's Cooper Athletic Center.
Maryville earned a hard fought 38-33 halftime lead even though the Monarch's out shot the Scots 52% to 48%. The Scots took advantage of their free-throws to earn the slight advantage at the intermission.
The Scots shot at a torrid pace (14-for-28, 50%) in the second half while allowing only a 39% effort from the visitors. Despite being out rebounded, Maryville put the game away going 12-for-17 from the charity stripe to close out the win.
Methodist (4-10, 2-2 USA South) was led by Keith Corbett's double-double. Corbett finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tabias Hilliard hit 7-of-8 shots for 17 points while T.J. Gill connected on three treys to finish with 13 points. Bryan Hockaday added a game-high 11 rebounds.
Maryville (8-6, 4-0 USA South) was paced by a 19-point effort by Jaumonee Byrd. Byrd deposited 5-of-6 shots while going 9-for-14 from the charity stripe. Joey Bodewig had a season-high 18 points in the post after hitting 7-of-14 shots from the floor. Christian Ford tossed in 17 points while directing the offense with five assists. Spencer Shoffner also had a complete effort with eight points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots from his guard position. Oscar Butler finished with nine points and six rebounds to help the complete team effort.
The Scots will prepare for next weekend when they travel to challenge USA South foes William Peace and NC Wesleyan.
