Box Score The Maryville College men's basketball team used a strong offensive surge in the last eight minutes of the game to secure an 85-74 USA South victory over Ferrum College on Saturday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Maryville used a balance scoring attack for the second night in a row with six Scots scoring in double figures. Jaumonee Byrd sank 10-of 19 shots for a game-high 23 points while also leading MC with nine rebounds. Christian Ford dished out five assists while sinking 13 points and senior J.P. Burris added six assists. Oscar Butler added a dozen points on 50% shooting while also bringing down seven boards. Spencer Shoffner hit two of MC's eight treys for 11 points while Craig Raye and Joey Bodewig each deposited 10 points.
Despite being out rebounded (53-43), Maryville's 50% team shooting effort helped the Scots pull away late. Ferrum finished the game shooting only 35% from the floor.
Ferrum (3-8, 0-2 USA South) was led by Jamal Pullen's 21 points on 7-of-20 shooting. Rashawn Speas was 7-for-8 from the floor for 17 points, completing a double-double with a dozen rebounds. Point guard Brian Clarke added 10 assists during the league challenge.
Maryville (6-6, 2-0 USA South) will now prepare for next weekend's USA South double-header at home. The Scots will host Greensboro College at 7:30 on Friday evening before challenging Methodist University for a 4:00 tip-off on Saturday.
