Lady Scots hold second place after first USA South loss

Box Score

The Maryville College women's soccer team dropped their first USA South match on Friday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

The Lady Scots dropped their Friday match to the hands of Meredith College in a 1-0 bout.

The Avenging Angels' Jamison Kidd scored the match's only goal during the 71st minute of action. Kidd scored the goal off a penalty kick following a corner kick.

Maryville's Rachel Taylor had eight saves in the game.

The Lady Scots' Allyson Hale and Sierra Siegel each had three shots in the game, each having two shots on goal.

Meredith McCartey led Meridith College with five shots, four of those being on goal.

"It was a game of two halves," coach Jon Baker said. "I think we had the better of the first half, and Meredith had the better of the second. In a tight game like this, you only get a few good looks at goal, and unfortunately, we never put ours away. We need to bounce back tomorrow against another tough conference opponent in Methodist."

With the win, Meredith is ranked first in the USA South with a 9-3-1 record. They've posted a 7-0-0 record in USA South action.

Maryville drops to 8-5-0, while holding a 6-1-0 record in coference action. The Lady Scots are currently ranked second within the USA South.

Maryville will return to action tomorrow, as they travel to Methodist University for a 2 p.m. start.
