Box Score Transylvania University's Pete Travisano connected on a walk-off solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Pioneers past Maryville College 6-5 in Lexington, Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon.
Maryville got on the scoreboard in the first when Nick Dean singled through the left side scoring Garrett Gresham.
Transy posted solo runs in the third and fourth before MC erupted for three runs in the fifth. MC's Matt Jones stroked a single to right-center scoring Gresham and Brighten Shoemake. John McDermott promptly drove in Jones with an infield ground ball to give the Scots a 4-2 advantage.
The Pioneers manufactured runs in the fifth and sixth, taking the lead 5-4 on a Trey Simpson double.
Maryville answered in their final at-bat when Matt Jones singled to right field scoring Chris Hamilton.
With the score tied, Transy's Travisano connected on a Brad Hampton offering to move the Pioneers to 6-7 on the season.
Kameron Schwartz was the sixth Pioneer hurler to work on the afternoon and earned his first victory of the season on the mound.
David Clifford started for the Scots going 5.1 innings. The lefty scattered seven hits while striking out 10. Robbie Britt, Tyler Hopkins, Joe Jones each threw effective relief for the visitors in the loss.
Maryville's offense tallied 11 hits led by Matt Jones' 3-for-5 effort. The second baseman scored a run while driving in three. Garrett Gresham, Nick Dean, and Dan Oaklief each posted a pair of hits.
Maryville (8-8) will return to the field on Friday when they host LaGrange College for a USA South three-game series. First-pitch against the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 on MC's Scotland Yard.
