The Maryville College diamondmen took the opening game of a three-game USA South series against LaGrange College by the score of 4-2 on Friday night on MC's Scotland Yard.
The Panthers scored an unearned run in their first at-bat off MC starter Trevor Brackett.
Maryville tied the game with a two-out RBI single by Matt Jones that scored Garrett Gresham.
Just after LaGrange took the lead 2-1 in the top of the sixth on a fielder's choice RBI, the Scots took advantage of a pair of Panther infield throwing errors to plate a pair of unearned runs.
Leading 3-2, Mc tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when John McDermott laced a single up the middle to score Nick Dean.
Trevor Brackett (3-1) picked up the win with seven innings of quality work on the mound. The righty scattered five hits, struck out six, while allowing only one earned run. Joe Jones pitched a strong inning in relief before Matt Dyer earned his fourth save of the season after facing three Panther hitters.
Offensively, Maryville tallied nine hits with Garrett Gresham, Matt Jones, and Nick Dean each finishing with a pair of hits.
With the loss LaGrange falls to 5-14 overall with a 3-7 mark in the USA South. Maryville advances to 9-8 on the season and 4-6 in the league.
The series will continue on Saturday with a 2:00 first pitch scheduled on Maryville's Scotland Yard.
