Box Score The Berry College Vikings took advantage of 14 walks while pounding out 15 additional hits to defeat Maryville College on the baseball diamond by the score of 13-5 on Wednesday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.
Maryville got on the scoreboard in the third when Garrett Gresham tripled in Jacob Ashe who had earlier walked.
The Vikings broke the game open with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Berry put together five hits and a pair of walks to take a 6-1 lead.
The Scots answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning when Nick Dean laced a two-RBI single into left field scoring Greg Burland and EJ Estrada.
A 6-2 ball game went to 8-2 on a Zach Farmer two-run homerun to left field.
Berry exploded for four additional runs in the seventh inning taking advantage of four walks and a pair of hits.
MC plated solo runs in the seventh and eighth when Dean earned an RBI on an infield groundout and EJ Estrada scored an unearned run on a wild pitch.
Glen Williamson earned the win on the mound for Berry. The lefty scattered a pair of hits over four innings allowing only one earned run.
Nine different hurlers took the mound for the Scots, but reliever Robbie Britt suffered the loss after surrendering four earned runs.
Berry's staff limited Maryville's offense to seven hits. Nick Dean finished 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs while Garrett Gresham was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Berry advances to 17-7 on the season while Maryville falls to 9-11.
The Scots will prepare to host Huntingdon College this weekend for a key USA South three-game series.
