Box Score 2 The Maryville College baseball team used a pair of strong pitching performances to earn a pair of USA South victories over Huntingdon College on Sunday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard. The Scots out paced the Hawks 5-1 in the series opener before earning the doubleheader sweep with a 9-5 win.
MC senior right-hander Trevor Brackett tossed a complete game three hitter to earn his fourth win on the season. Brackett (4-1) struck out four and allowed only one earned run.
Maryville's offense tallied seven hits with Nick Dean, Landon Talley, and Zack Blonder each collecting a pair of hits. Talley paced the Scots with a pair of RBIs.
In the second game MC's Seth Debity scattered seven hits over 6.1 innings while his offense stroked 13 hits. Debity (2-2) struck out four while allowing four earned runs. Right-hander Tyler Hopkins closed the game with 2.1 innings of one-hit relief to earn his first save of the season.
Leading 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Maryville put four runs on the scoreboard to cruise to the league victory.
Landon Talley finished 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored while Zack Blonder stroked a pair of doubles before finishing 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Catcher Travis Scates also went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Designated hitter E.J. Estrada also added a pair of runs driven in.
With the sweep Maryville advances to 11-11 and 6-8 in USA South challenges. Huntingdon falls to 16-10 and 11-6 after losing five consecutive games.
Maryville will host the Hawks in the series finale on Monday. First pitch is slated on Scotland Yard for 1:00.
