Box Score

From Birmingham Southern Sports Information reports

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—In the final game of the BSC Invitational, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team downed Maryville College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon on Preston Goldfarb Field at Berylson Park.

The Panthers move to 3-1 on the season, while the Scots fall to 1-3 after losing to Sewanee yesterday in game two of the Invitational.

BSC scored the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute when junior Jessie Sperry made a penalty kick after Maryville was called for a hand ball in the box. The 1-0 lead stood until the 68th minute when sophomore Nicole Newton found the back of the net to put the Panthers up 2-0. The Scots ruined the shutout in the 73rd minute when Kaitlyn Kennedy collected the ball off a free kick by Sarah Wickman and got it past BSC keeper Katie Williams.

Williams had six saves for the Panthers, while Maryville goalie Rachel Taylor made five.

The Panthers are at home again this Tuesday, Sept. 9, hosting in-state rival Huntingdon at 7 p.m. on Goldfarb Field. Maryville will return to action on Wednesday when they host Oglethorpe University at 5:00 p.m.
