Maryville out shot the Lions 6-1 in a scoreless first half. Gardner turned back six MC shots on goal. Taylor and the MC defense that featured solid efforts by Lizzy Simmons, Eleni Mavres, Casey Gentile, Rachel Leal, Mackenzie Hutton, and Miranda Lukas thwarted four attacks on goal before the extra periods.
The Scots defense recorded a pair of saves in the first overtime before MC's offense sent a trio of shots on goal in the final extra period.
As the match ended, Maryville had 13 shots on goal to Piedmont's 9. MC could not capitalize on their 9-3 corner kick advantage.
Maryville's Sierra Siegel paced MC attackers with four shots and a pair on goal. Piedmont's Cassidy Reich led the Lions with four shots on goal.
